Here it is December and still no snow on Mackinac. This is a bit disheartening for the residents who look forward to the morning commute via snowmobile and the formation of the Ice Bridge between St. Ignace and Mackinac. There have been a few flurries but nothing worth getting excited about.
Last weekend was the Mackinac Island Christmas Bazaar and Craft Show.
Everyone had a wonderful time sharing homemade goodies and crafts. Santa came to visit and a new snowmobile was raffled off to one lucky resident.
Students and their families from Put In Bay, Ohio were on the island for a basketball game against our Lakers. During their time on the island the group enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of the hotel.
Winter maintenance is in full swing and everyone is staying busy with repairs and updates. Some of you may know Don “Duck” Andres, a life long Mackinac Island resident and talented craftsman. Duck is working on the many flower boxes that line the front porch and the street in front of the hotel. We receive many inquiries requesting the name of the “manufacturer” of the flower boxes throughout the season. Well, here is proof that they are indeed hand crafted just for Grand Hotel.

I have been asking my husband to make me some of those flower boxes for a long time now. I still don’t have any. I think it would be a great idea if you sold affordable kits to make your own. I know I’m not the only one who likes them. I know I would buy them. I need at least 4 of them. Just a suggestion. Thanks.
