Reporting from the Big Apple and the Windy City

Each winter our Shops Managers travel to New York City and Chicago to preview what is in fashion for the year and purchase what we will be selling in the various Grand Hotel Shops.   This January, the team braved the bitter cold and went to New York City to find clothing and fine jewelry for the Colony Shop and Grand Hotel & Co. Fine Jewelry.

In the Big Apple they stayed at The Algonquin Hotel, famous for Matilda, a cat who lives there.  In the small amount of spare time spent not shopping, our Shops Managers were able to see the musical: Le Cage Aux Folles, starring Kelsey Grammar, which was reported to be wildly humorous.  When it came time to get “down to business” clothing items focused on for this year were separates.  This will make adding something special from Grand Hotel to any existing wardrobe easy for our guests.

Designers that you will see and may recognize in our shops this season include: Fox Croft, Kathleen Sommers, Katherine Barclay, B.K.E. and more.  Look for new pieces and designers in Grand Hotel & Co. Fine Jewelry, including: 14K Rose Gold earrings with a variety of stones by Arik Kastan, and some retro costume jewelry by Miriam Haskell!

In Chicago, the elegant Drake Hotel provided a wonderful view of Lake Michigan. While in the windy city, they attended a gift show and previewed some great merchandise, which will be perfect for Carleton’s Tea Store, Mackinac Market, and Margaret’s Garden.

The annual buying trip was a success and we are looking forward to another wonderful season at Grand Hotel.  Be sure to stop in and check out some of the great new items our Shops Managers spent time hand picking for your enjoyment.

I will be sure to leave one of my suitcases half empty, so I will have space to pack some of the new merchandise purchased at Carletons, Mackinac Market AND Margarets Garden. You truly do have unique gifts and merchandise. I always come home with something new. I love shopping there, and I always wondered where you find the items, well, now I know. Thanks…
